Arnulf Rainer was born in Baden near Vienna in 1929 and is one of Austria’s most internationally significant and successful contemporary artists. Since September 2009, Baden has operated a museum in honor of its famous son at Frauenbad, a magnificent 19th structure in Neo-Classical style. It is not a bath for women as the name suggests but rather named after the nearby Frauenkirche (“Church of Our Lady”). The museum strikes a perfect balance between the historical structure and modern museum presentation techniques.

The elegant building is an ideal venue for rotating exhibitions of Rainer’s large and multi-faceted oeuvre, including his famous “overpaintings”. The 90 square meter festival hall is the center of the Arnulf Rainer Museum. It can be rented out along with the foyer as a perfect location for special events. Decorated in marble, the hall is suitable for cultural events such as readings or small theater performances and for smart presentations.
