The Apricot Delight

Overlooking the eastern egde of the Wachau Valley at 429m above see level arises the Benedictine Abbey Goettweig, the homeland of the Apricot Valley. Since 2013, the old garden with herbs and apricot is available for visits in its natural and original form. In this garden are about 50 trees from twelve different varieties cultivated in the Wachau.

You can visit one of the highest situated apricot orchands in the Wachau, also learn all about this typical Wachau fruit and to convince yourself of its wonderful flavor, to taste it. A short film provides useful information on this fruit and its processing into delicious natural products. Afterwards the precise tour leads either to the Imperial Staircase – the largest baroque staircase in Austria – or in the Abbeys Church, or, on request, directly under one of the largest roofs in Austria. In the souvenir shop can be bought all the apricot specialties as well as the wines from the estate’s own vineyard. When leaving the abbey, from the terrace you can enjoy the scenic view over the apricot orchands and over the numerous vineyards part of the Wachau Valley.

Available all year by appointment, price/person from 20 Adults, incl. VAT. In case of bad weather conditions all contents of the Herbs and Apricot Garden Tour will take place indoor.
